5 Steps To Your Most Sexy Summer

This week Beauty & Lace caught up with health and wellness expert Amber Walker, who let us in on a little secret, that feeling confident and sexy for summer has very little to do with how you look and much more to do with how you feel.

As a leader in her field, Amber has won 3 World championship fitness trophies and coached the likes of Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem and the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean 5.

She explains, “I have worked with some of the most beautiful people in the world and myself won several world fitness titles, and what I have learnt is that the pursuit of physical perfect alone will not make you feel sexy or confident. Complete self-confidence comes from taking a more holistic view of your health and wellbeing and nurturing your mind, body and soul.”

So what are Ambers tips for having your most confident and sexy summer?

  1. Kick comparison to the curb

Sadly comparing how we look to other women is something that increases around the warmer months as clothing becomes skimpier and swimwear season begins.

Body comparison does nothing but create an instant whipping stick to deplete our self-esteem and confidence. What we should be focused on is finding what we love about our won bodies and forgetting what we don’t. Sure, we all have little things about our bodies we’d love to change, but when we start focusing on the aspect we love and make it a daily practice to remind ourselves of these things, then the small flaws that bug us begin to disappear and we transform how we see ourselves physically.

  1. Fuel your body with nutritious food

Summer is a great time to revamp your eating habits and focus on clean, healthy nutrition fresh foods. With abundance of fresh fruits and produce readily available, we are spoilt for choice when it comes to wholesome foods to eat.

Fueling your body with wholefoods that are in or close to their natural state is much more about influencing how you FEEL day to day, than how you look. While many of us would love to shift a few stubborn kilos in the warmer months, simply cleaning up our food choices can dramatically transform how we feel about our bodies.

Quite simply, when we fuel our bodies properly they work better, our energy levels increase, bloating and inflammation decrease, our skin and eyes are brighter and we FEEL better about ourselves.

  1. Embrace movement: make exercise a reward not a punishment

Daily movement is so important for every human being. Exercise releases endorphins which turn on our feel good factor and instantly make us feel fabulous. But forcing ourselves into exercise that we don’t enjoy can have a major negative impact on our physical and emotional wellbeing.

What we should be focused on is finding ways to move our body that we look forward to and love. For some this will be gentle pursuits like yoga, nature walks or simply stretching, whilst for others more physically intensive activity like weights, bike riding, bootcamps or running is their movement of choice.

Whatever your preference, shift your mindset away from what exercise you think you ‘should’ be doing, and focus on movement that you love doing. When the activity becomes one of positive enjoyment the end result is you feel incredible about yourself afterwards.

  1. Focus on the positive

When we approach a new year it is very easy to remember the bad things that have occurred and want to start over again (I’m guilty of this too!). But its important for our self-worth and well being that we focus on the positive and always take time to reflect on the good things that we appreciate about our life and ourselves, big or small.

It may be things that happened to you, people you met, accomplishments you achieved or things you like about yourself, but taking the time for this type of daily reflection and gratitude will instantly give you an energy boost and put a spring in your step and smile on your face.

  1. Walk barefoot along the seaside

Walking along the beach and getting back to mother nature is a simple but impactful practice that we can all benefit from. The negative ions will lift your mood and there is nothing sexier than beach hair and sand between your toes!

  1. Laugh

With the busy lives we lead, hectic work schedules and increased popularity of social media, its easy to get caught up in the daily grind and forget to make time for people who bring us true joy.

This summer, get off social media and make time to catch up with friends who make you laugh. The positive power of laughter on our body, mind and spirit cannot be overlooked. We have all had the experience of catching up with an old friend who we spend hours laughing with. We walk away feeling absolutely fantastic, a huge smile on our face, not a care in the world. So why do we do this more often?

There is nothing more attractive than a happy carefree person.
