There I was waiting and hanging out for the big announcement that would be made this morning only to get up and discover that the info leaked all over cyberspace overnight and the official tour announcement was made sometime between 3-4am, depending on where in the country you are. Exciting news people and some you are going to need to be prepared for early, because this tour is going to sell out super quick is my bet.
Prince is coming to Australia! It is confirmed and there are a couple of exciting, and I thought a little unusual, elements at play here. Tickets go on sale this Monday the 16th of April – 4 days from tour announcement to on sale date.
There will be NO PRE-SALE! In the interests of fairness all tickets will go on sale together at 9am on Monday 16th April through Ticketek.
But the biggest of the best bits is that it is less than 4 weeks from on sale date until concert night! There is less than 5 weeks until Prince is performing in Australia in front of thousands of screaming fans.
One of the music world’s most iconic superstars will be here on tour in May performing his greatest hits, that’s almost close enough that we could start counting the sleeps.
Prince last performed in Australia in 2003, and this will only be the third time he has toured here so if you ever needed incentive to get your hands on tickets I think it’s right here in this sentence!
Prince is an extremely private musical superstar, he lets his prolific and influential music speak for itself. He is reserved in media interviews and notoriously reclusive but put him on stage and he fairly oozes sex appeal and charisma, he has a stage presence that filters right to the corners of even the largest arenas.
Hits such as Purple Rain, 1999, Controversy, When Doves Cry, Diamonds and Pearls, Kiss, Little Red Corvette, Cream, Raspberry Beret and Nothing Compares 2 U have cemented their places in the hearts and minds of a generation. These are songs that are attached to so many memories of so many adolescences that Prince is a name and a sensation that is never going to pass, a star that will never fall and he will fill arenas as long as that stage presence remains. Prince has a way of combining pop, funk, folk and rock in a way that is seamless and appeals to fans of all of those styles.
The Prince back catalogue is almost as vast and diverse as it is extremely popular and his album sales are positively staggering. He has sold over one-hundred million albums, and collected ten platinum albums and more than thirty top singles. He has won seven Grammy Awards from thirty-three nominations as well as a Golden Globe for The Song Of The Heart from Happy Feet and an Academy Award for Purple Rain.
1999 was the major breakthrough album for Prince, his self-titled second album went platinum but 1999 blew it out of the water selling over three million copies.
That seems pretty extraordinary but even that was nothing compared to Purple Rain’s success. Superstardom came with this album that sold more than ten million copies in the United States alone, it topped the charts for twenty-four weeks which sounds like a lot but when you convert it – just under six months that album topped the charts and that does sound phenomenal.
Since that time he has practiced great diversity, experimenting with sound and style while he writes and produces with ambition. He has also mentored and written hits for other artists, and founded his own recording studio and label.
All of that helps elevate him to the cream of the crop but what cements his place in super stardom – and Rolling Stone’s list of the Greatest Artists of All Time – are his legendary stage shows. Prince concerts are flamboyant and thrilling, his brilliant musicianship is evenly matched with cutting edge presentation.
The May tour will see Prince bring his full scale arena production to Australia, including a complete 360 degree stage and ground breaking technology.
Every member of the audience will be enthralled, held captive to the rare talent that is Prince from his buoyant solos to moments of great intimacy.
“We have tickets starting from only $99 so that everyone can see this legendary superstar performer, Prince.” – Garry Van Egmond.
30 minutes was all it took for Prince’s multiple concerts at Madison Square Garden to sell out, and his 21 night stand in London’s 02 Arena set new box office records – it’s an arena that seats 20,000. This Australian tour is going to be one of the greatest concert events this decade so be prepared because you don’t have longs before tickets go on sale, but be super-quick because these tickets won’t last long.
This tour is presented by Chugg Entertainment and Van Egmond Group, and if you want to get on the band wagon and keep up to date with all announcement go check out the tour pages: www.princetour.com.au and www.facebook.com/princew2aus
There is no Pre Sale for these concerts!

I devour books, vampires and supernatural creatures are my genre of choice but over the past couple of years, I have broadened my horizons considerably. In a nutshell – I love to write! I love interacting with a diverse range of artists to bring you interviews. Perhaps we were perfect before – I LOVE WORDS!
