Christmas is a time of giving and what better gift to give than one that also has part of the profits going to charity. I’m sure by now we all know that you can make donations in lieu of a gift…but what if you could still give the gift and also help with social enterprises and not for profit organisations.
There is a wide range of companies that offer these type of gifts, and a lot of them are ones you wouldn’t expect to be able to purchase with part of the profits going to a good cause.
How about beer that helps conserve the Great Barrier Reef, chocolate and hampers that help train people with disabilities or restaurants and caterers that help social causes?
The Good Xmas Trail brings together a list of businesses that will help spread good throughout the community this festive season. It doesn’t matter what sort of shopping you have on your list because I’m sure you can find something on The Good Xmas Trail.
Businesses looking at hampers for clients or employees can do fantastic work for the community by purchasing their hampers from Fruit2Work which is a company offering second chances to people who can’t get a foot into the workforce.
They launched in May 2016 partnered with 2 charities to provide paid employment opportunities through 6 month program placements. They collect, pack and deliver the hampers to Melbourne businesses every week.
The Good Beer Co offers fantastic stocking fillers and would be a great option for the guys in your life that are just too difficult to buy for, because who doesn’t love a cold beer on a hot Christmas Day? The benefit of buying from The Good Beer Co is that not only are you slaking the thirst of your loved ones but you are helping support the Australian Marine Conservation Society and profile their work to protect the Great Barrier Reef.
The Good Beer Co works with Australian craft brewers to brew good beers that are then sold to raise money for important causes; they also seek to work as an example of best practice to the brewing sector by demonstrating how to minimise environmental impact and brewing sustainably.
Chocolates are always a crowd favourite at Christmas so why not purchase from Mildura Chocolate Co, a Mildura based company increasing community awareness for their employees abilities rather than focusing on their disabilities.
The Mildura Chocolate Co is part of the Christie Centre, a not for profit Disability Support Organisation. Their partnership with Kennedy and Wilson allowed employees to train in a highly skilled occupation as well as sourcing chocolate from one of Australia’s most sublime chocolate producers.
The Legend Project offers you great sporting accessories and apparel while helping the homeless of Melbourne with a chat and a bag of essentials to help them get by.
Hosier Hoodies is a brand of apparel celebrating Melbourne’s iconic street art with proceeds helping Concern Australia and the homeless. For each Hosier Hoodie purchased $20 will be donated towards crisis accommodation for one of Melbourne’s homeless.
This is just a few of the gift ideas compiled in The Good Xmas Trail and I really could stay all day and go through the entire list. There are restaurants, food vans, catering, gifts and jewellery – so there really is something for everyone. With every purchase made through The Good Xmas Trail you are spreading the goodness and helping out a cause of your choice.
We should all spend more time shopping from this extensive list.

I devour books, vampires and supernatural creatures are my genre of choice but over the past couple of years, I have broadened my horizons considerably. In a nutshell – I love to write! I love interacting with a diverse range of artists to bring you interviews. Perhaps we were perfect before – I LOVE WORDS!
