Oversized coats and Chelsea boots – Autumn is on the way!

With autumn just around the corner it is time to start thinking about packing away the shorts and summer dresses for another year. This leads to the natural question of what to wear during the autumn months, and provides you with a great excuse to go shopping and update your wardrobe.

80s style jackets

Much of the fashion that is coming off the catwalks for this autumn is straight out of the 70s. However, when it comes to jackets there has been much more of an 80s theme going on. Oversized, multi-coloured jackets are making a comeback. However, if you aren’t comfortable rocking the 80s look, there are alternatives. Still sticking with the oversized theme but more subtle, is the oversized maxi coat. This autumn the maxi coat is most popular in browns and military style colours.

Knitwear

During autumn it isn’t always necessary to wear a coat and the fashion this year is favouring knitwear. Not just any old knitwear though, deconstruction has become a theme. Knitwear that looks as if it has been unpicked in places, or various pieces of knitwear sewn onto other pieces of knitwear to give a more unusual and often dramatic garment. Another trend when it comes to knitwear is similar to the coats and suggests that oversized, chunky knitwear will also make you look fashionable this autumn. Knitwear seems to be found in all colours but the creams and whites are must haves for your wardrobe.

Layering

Layering is not a new trend for this autumn, but the items that are being layered are. On the catwalks you’ll find combinations of tea dresses with shirts, parkas and double-breasted jackets, and polo necks also with shirts were all on display. Whether this translates to the high street will be interesting, and probably less wild, but it is certain that aspects of this new layering will be adopted. So start thinking of fun combos you can throw together.

Footwear

For the not too rainy days, loafers are a trend that is giving women the chance to leave their heels at home whether they are going to work or dressed more casually. Boots are a staple trend during autumn and this year the classic Chelsea boot is a stylish and practical addition to the wardrobe. Of course, there are always the days in autumn that feel more like winter and you need something even more robust on your feet. However, style doesn’t have to give way to practicality. Having a pair of Hunter wellies in your wardrobe means you are ready for any weather but look stylish at the same time.

Autumn is a great time of year to experiment with fashion and try something a bit new and different. Throw out (or just put away for next year) your summer outfits and fill your wardrobe with oversized jumpers, coats and various shoes for every type of weather that autumn can bring.
