Spring / Summer Hair with Craig Smith (Fruition Salon Group)

Craig Smith is Director and Owner of Fruition Salon Group, QLD. He is also a National Creative Artist for the Schwarzkopf Professional Creative Team and a Hair Expo Australian Hairdresser of the Year 2011 Finalist.

We asked Craig about his predictions for Spring / Summer 2011 for hair colour trends and celebrity inspiration:

“The catwalk fashion for Spring/Summer 2011/12 fashion is bold and bright. From Marc Jacob’s oversized fuchsia florals to Prada’s Kaleidoscope of acid stripes, the upcoming season is definitely not one for the faint hearted.

Immaculate tailoring was also a key trend and the cue to one of my favorite hair trends to emerge from the international catwalks.”

short hair

“This trend is a structured look with sharply defined cuts and polished color. Hair is cut short for this look and styled with confidence. The traditional bob wears a long fringe that provides a sensual veil to the face.

This modernist trend is definitely about ‘reductionism’ a tangible nod to the minimalist precision of fashion houses that inspire the look, such as Prada, Stella McCartney and Max Mara.

Curl is definitely back too, not just an increase in body or volume, but real curl formations, complimented with an organic palette of naturally placed blonde and brown tones. To compliment the richness of this trend, deep copper and red will also make an appearance, with tonal variation used to add depth and shine.

Keira Knightly has been sporting the modernist bob and really hones into the total look with minimal make up and sharp tailored threads.

Rhianna is always one to watch for the current take on copper and Victoria Beckham is a good point of reference when talking opulent hair trends to match her expensive taste in threads!”

  1. Phew ! I thought i had to go and get an angular cut this spring/summer. My hair is naturally wavy and i could easily try to curl it if i wanted to. Yay, curl is back.
