CLOSED: Win with Nobody But Him

By Victoria Purman

She didn’t expect to run into her first love…or to fall back in love with him.

At the age of eighteen, Julia Jones left her hometown — the small beachside town of Middle Point — with a head full of grand plans. Plans for an exciting life in a town that didn’t involve a main street with only one pub or a particular boy named Ryan Blackburn.

But fifteen years and a lifetime later, Julia’s forced to put her career and big-city life on hold when she returns home to finalise her mother’s estate. Which is exactly where she runs smack-bang into the town’s hero, Ry. As in Ryan Blackburn! The sensible thing to do? Stay the hell away from him and head back to Melbourne as fast as her stilettos can carry her! But instead, Julia finds his offer of a helping hand and a hot body too delicious to refuse.

Soon, she’s ignoring her better judgement and diving into an ‘I’ll think about it tomorrow’ fling with Ry. But what she doesn’t realise is that tomorrow has a way of sneaking up on you…and that saying goodbye to her hometown — and to Ry — is so much harder the second time around. 1. His name was David and he was my first crush. He came to the school in grade two. I liked him from he first but I actually got to know him better in grade three when the teacher made us sit together. We became good friends and finished primary and high school together.

    1. My first love was a boy called Colin and I ended up married to him and we have been married for 24. Years happy

  2. My first crush was on a boy in primary school. We were best friends all throughout school, and would go to each other’s places after school and play games and sing songs ans just hang out.
We lost contact once we went to high school but were reunited on Facebook a few years back. He is still such a lovely guy, but there is absolutely no chance of us getting together romantically as I am now happily married and he is gay. I still love him heaps though!

  3. I had my first crush when I was 12, the boy next door who was perfect in every way until he moved to another city with his family. I found out recently he is a father of 9 kids, wow!

  4. My first crush was in primary school. His name was Bobby and he came along with his dad to do some chores around the school. We would hang out at the canteen together. I was so in love. Then one day he was gone, and I never found out where or what had happened to him 🙁

  5. My first love was in 1st class. We went to the same Primary school and he even gave me an engagement ring. I showed my parents who thought..hmmmmm and rang his mother. Next thing I remember is her asking for it back and giving Mark some money to buy a ring at the local toy shop. It was a green stone ring and I thought it was beautiful until the stone fell out. He was my boyfriend until 3rd class. I can remember it as if it was yesterday. Even remember his last name 🙂

  6. My first crush/love was at 12, when a neighbour asked me out. It was my very first boyfriend, his name was Bruce, he was 2 years older than me and ridiculously good looking. He wrote me love poems and spoilt me every occasion he could; Easter, birthday, Christmas. We went out for a year until I my family moved from the country to the coast…I was devastated. Now at 43, I still have a place in my heart for him and we have kept in contact over the years. I think the saying is true “You will never forget your first love”.

  7. My first crush and love was Barry I met him when I was 16 and 28 years and four beautiful children and one grandchild later he is still my crush my husband my lover my best friend 🙂

  8. He was a family friend and my crush for four years. I couldn’t believe it when he asked me out, thought he was just being nice and totally made a mess of it. The next time I saw him I was married with two young ones. It obviously wasn’t meant to be.

  9. My 1st crush was my Smouldering gorgeous Italian Guitar teacher age 12 & I have to say I didn’t lean a single song I just stared at him needless to say after 6 + lessons Dad stopped lessons & I always wondered what happened to him that was 30 something years ago !!

  10. I was 16, his name was Garth and it lasted 2 years. I wrote him this poem…
We first met as strangers at the Engadine fair,
Although you looked cute we just weren’t aware,
Until 9 months later when we became friends,
I’ll treasure that moment until the very end.

It goes on a few more verses, but you get the idea, hehe.

  11. His name was Andrew, he was my neighbour and we went to school together. I used to chase him around and try to kiss him, and his mother would tell me that the boy should do the chasing not the girl!

  12. My first crush was when I was very young and I saw Nathan Cavaleri, the guitar player, on TV and decided that he was going to be my boyfriend. So I told all my family and everyone just knew from then on that he was my boyfriend! I wish it was that simple these days lol!

  13. omg this story could be mine, at 18 i left my one pub town to escape a certain guy and hitched around Australia only to return 12 months later, I walked into the pub and there he was. 2 children 30 years later I believe he was my destiny and I love him with all my heart.

  14. Much to my father’s horror I fell for the local drug dealer. At the time all I could see was his gorgeous looks and amazing body, the fun and thrill of going out with a boy who had his license and could and did take me out to amazing places. Sadly as he self predicted, he died well before his time. It’s been 2 decades and still not a day goes by that I don’t think of him.

  15. My first crush / love and I were in high school together he was tall fair and very handsome, he was my best friend, my rock, I loved him with my whole heart, I like to think he would still be my love today if he had not tragically died in a car accident – no one ever knew me the way he did, he saw a part of me that I think died when he did.

  16. Luckily I am married to my first love! Took me a while to find him or for him to find me, but it was love at first sight!

  17. I was in love with a boy in High school that didn’t know I existed. He worked at Safeway so I got a job there working after school. I got to talk to him but I was too scared to tell him how I felt. I don’t think he ever knew that I liked him. How embarrassing.

  18. My first crush was “Alex” in Kindy, we told everyone that we were cousins so they wouldn’t tease us!

  19. Well I’ve had a few little crushes here and there but the one that sticks with me the most was the crush on one of my best friends in high school. He ended up not wanting to ‘risk’ our friendship and instead introduced me to his older brother. So in the end my first love was the older brother who later went on to break my heart a few years later. It was all character building though and I’ve managed to remain friends with the younger brother so at least our original friendship stood the test of time even if the relationship with his brother didn’t.

  20. My first love was my cat. I was only 3 but can still remember the day we bought her. Her never-ending love and loyalty will always remain with me.

  21. My friend introduced me to my crush and he instantly hated me. Turns out, he hated my friend so that kind explains why he hated me. One morning my crush appeared beside my locker. I said hi and all he said was ‘I saw you this morning at your bus stop… Do you want a lift to school tomorrow?’ I got so flustered and confused that I said no. We haven’t really spoken since then but I still really like him. Most. Awkward. Crush. I. Have. Ever. Had.

  22. My first love was a boy named Brendan. I was too young to know what love really was but even now as I get older, I realise that I am still in love with that boy. He gives me tingles every time I think about him over 35 years later.

  23. Our eyes met over a crowded bus
    The air was so electric
He pushed his way past one then three
To get to where I stood

He gave a big smile, my heart skipped a beat
I thought he would continue on
But he stopped to say ‘hello’ to me
Then asked me out – fear gone

From that day on we haven’t parted
And the years have flown on by
We were childhood sweethearts back at school
And now 25 years have gone by

I think back to that fateful day
So thankful he came my way
Fused at the hip, the school would say
And it is no different this very day.

  24. I was 12 so was he we worked on a school play together I chased him round the school disco floor and he was my boyfriend for a month

  25. hahaha….should I really do this….lmao
    I was in grade 1…
    and his name was Johnny…
yes, little Johnny loved me too bits…
he used to bring me flowers to school with cut out hearts in envelopes for me….
then one day…. I went to stand up and the elastic in my knickers broke!! yes, they nearly fell down. I sat straight back down and started to cry. Johnny being the loving boyfriend went and got a teacher for me. He even offered to give me his undies…. he was a real little treasure.
then we moved….. I never saw little Johnny again..
I think of him sometimes and wonder where he ended up in life….
    I hope he’s happy…..

  26. My first love happened in the final year of my high school. Timing wise was unfortunate as he was about to leave for USA and I was about to leave for Sydney. A few months after settling down, I found out that while he was saying that he cared about me, he was seeing another girl in his class. It turned out he was seeing 3 girls at the same time.

  27. My first love was a boy called Richard. We were 4 years old, and used to kiss while we shared a swing at the kindergarten we went to. My family moved away for 11 years, and the next time I saw him was in High school. He gave me a black eye when he threw a blackboard duster at me. Needless to say, we never rekindled the romance.

  28. I first fell in love when I was seventeen and the young man will always hold a special place in my hat. That was nearly forty years ago and I have had a whole and fulfilling life since but sometimes you wonder, what if?

  29. My first crush was my next door neighbor. I was 4 or 5 at the time lol he looked like snoop dogg and I used to howl at him whenever I saw him. I thought I was cute lol he’s a good family friend and still makes fun of me and my howl lol

  30. My first crush was Scott (Jason Donavon) in Neighbours. I was young and though I was going to marry him. Naturally I didn’t like Charlene.

  31. My first crush was my friend’s brother. I was in year 4 and he was 3 years older than me. Every time I saw him I’d get buttterflies in my tummy and I couldn’t wait to go to high school as we’d be at the same school and I’d fantasize that we would become more than friends. When I finally made it to year 8, he was as good-looking as ever but unfortunately, in a devastating blow to my self esteem, I realised all the other girls thought so too and they were all fighting for him!

  32. My first love was when I was ten, a big white fluffy puppy poodle, fifi, he was my best friend and I loved him and he made me so very happy.

  33. My first love was a boy named matt…….I called him kermit the frog and he called me miss piggy and we chased each other in the playground every day all through lunch….lololol

  35. I recently met up with my first true love and it was like time hadn’t elapsed. I still feel the same for him and him for me. You really do know when it is true love. You feel butterflies whenever you think of them.

  36. My first crush was with a guy named Tony in primary school, also thought we would end up together. It wasnt until I found my partner now of (10yrs) I now know what true love really means

  37. My first crush was when I was about 5 years old and he was a boy in my Preschool class. I remember it clearly like it was yesterday. He had dark hair, green eyes and a gorgeous smile. I used to try and stand next to him every chance I got, we held hands sometimes while playing. He was also the first boy who gave me a kiss on the cheek. Then he went off to another school and that was it.

  38. 38 years ago I had a crush on my girl friends brother after years of trying to win him over, I eventually did and we have been married for 34 years now

  39. A smile as big as anything, hands large and gentle, passion about animals and a real nice guy. Tall and just amazing, no where near my league but I had to have and really loved him.

  40. Aparently I filled up this boys VW campervan with fuel he went to my school I can’t say I noticed him at the time as he was in the form above me. We had many a happy a time in the Combi at the beach, parties and concerts. There was the old Combi wave.

  41. Initially I wasn’t sure that he was what I wanted but when I lost him I did. In my own mine I now know he broke it off.
